Decades ago when Yamaha introduced its first-ever FZ FI in the market the scene was a whole lot different. And, the market dynamics we have today are primarily set by Yamaha.
Yamaha was firm and persistent in defying the culture of carburetors because the future Yamaha envisioned from its very first days was to provide low emission and high performance. Another reason for Yamaha to persistently promote the benefits of the FI engine was its concern for the environment over cost-saving, and its responsibilities as a leading distributor to invest for a better future.
Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, automobile engineers have strived to find effective ways to deliver air and fuel to the combustion engine. The device which controls the ratio of the air-fuel mixture entering the engine is known as a carburetor, a fuel injection system also does the same.
In simple terms, a carburetor helps the air-fuel mixture to enter the combustion chamber. All this is done through mechanical parts. The fuel injection system also helps the combustion chamber to get an air-fuel mixture, but with the aid of electronics and sensors, and not through mechanical parts.
The fuel injection system comprises a complex set of electronic components and sensors. The system depends on a fuel pump to control the flow of fuel to the combustion chamber. This fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank of the bike. The supply of fuel to the combustion chamber is enabled through an Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This electric brain constantly monitors and makes complex calculations to deliver the best possible air-fuel mixture.

The complex calculations include parameters such as throttle position, engine speed, engine temperature and load, among others. The nozzle of the fuel injection system goes right into the chamber of the cylinder. Hence, the ECU directs the injectors to control the amount of fuel to enable the most efficient mode of combustion.
Fuel-injected engines are efficient when we talk ‘work’. By efficient, I mean the overall engine performance increases. A pump is actually located in the system that makes sure that the fuel efficiently mixes with air and is supplied to the combustion chamber to produce efficient power.
The pump regulates and utilizes the amount of fuel that is subjected to the combustion chamber. The accelerator acts as a command for the pump to start pouring the required amount of fuel and air to burn, making the engine generate more power and it results in enhanced throttle response.
Here are the advantages of fuel injection system on bikes:
- Accurate air-fuel mixture and atomisation.
- Cleaner and more efficient combustion.
- Sharper and quicker throttle response.
- Better fuel efficiency or mileage.
- Compared to carburetors, FI systems are maintenance-free and less prone to damage.
- Can easily be tuned through ECU mapping.

Blue Streaks is an initiative designed to bring together the biker in every Yamaha fan at all levels, united by a love of riding and the appreciation of unique Yamaha quality. This means that we not only build outstanding motorcycles but also help create memorable experiences for riders.
Through this event, every motorcycle enthusiast got the opportunity to experience the thrill of riding and exploring the best of technology, performance, and safety features in Yamaha’s premium model range. During the event, activities like Gymkhana Ride were organized for the participants to showcase their talent and sharpen their riding skills. To further build excitement, a Test Ride Activity, a display of the Yamaha product range and an Accessories & Apparels Zone was also arranged. Another major highlight of the event was the Styling Zone, wherein customers indulged in various forms of face painting and tattoo art. The company will continue to organize the event to raise awareness of the brand’s commitment to promoting riding culture as a part of customers’ lifestyles.
The customer engagement event by Yamaha was the first in the region this year. Around 400 riders from Blue Streaks (a community of passionate Yamaha owners) and more than 1000 Yamaha fans participated in the event.
